negative(is not= isn’t); ini di sebut dengan Contraction.mungkin masal ini tampaksepele sepertiI’m dari I am, tetapi bagaimana dengan she’s? she’s belum tentu merupakan contraction dari she is, karena ia bias juga dari she was, atau she has. Jadi harus dilihat kata sesudahnya.

Subyek-AV Contraction

I’m= I am

I’II= I will, I shall

She’s= she is, she was, she has

You’re= you are, you were,

We’ve=we have,

They’d=they had, they  would

Contoh : she’s a teacher- she’s= she is karena Present Tense

She’s a sick yesterday-she was= karena dia past tense

She’s been here –she has= karena Present Perfect

Negative AV Contraction

Is’not= isn’t

Are not= aren’t

Was not=wasn’t

Were not=weren’t

Does not=doesn’t

Do not=don’t

Did not=didn’t

Has not=hasn’t

Have not=haven’t

Had not=hadn’t

Will not=won’t

Would not=wouldn’t

Shall not=shan’t

Should not=shouldn’t

Can not=can’t

Could not=couldn’t

Must not=musn’t

Am not, may not, might not, tidak bias dibuat Contraction.

Contoh:

Tidakkah kamu tahu namaku?

Bukankah ia teman barumu?
